How can we help

The British Consulate-General, Chongqing exists to promote UK interests in south-west China, and build better links between the two countries. It works to build wide-ranging and mutually beneficial relations between our two governments and peoples in the areas of trade and investment, science and technology, education, culture, climate change, sustainable development and the environment. The Consulate General also facilitates the legitimate movement of people between the two countries and offers assistance to British citizens in genuine need.

 

The areas under the jurisdiction of British Consulate General Chongqing are:

Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces

 

Services we provide

 

Consular
The Consular Section provides the full range of consular facilities to British Nationals. Our responsibilities include registering births and deaths, providing legal paperwork in marriage cases, issuing passports, notary service and consular protection for British nationals.

Visa
The Visa Section is responsible for processing and issuing visas for entrance to the United Kingdom. The types of visas processed include visits (official and private) only, other categories will be forwarded to Beijing Embassy. In West China all categories of visa applications are made to the Visa Application Centres in Chongqing and Chengdu.

Trade and Investment
UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) is the trade development arm of the British government and supports British businesses entering the Chinese market through missions, seminars, trade shows, research and ongoing advice. UKTI also assists overseas companies to bring high quality investment to the UK’s vibrant economy.

Bilateral Affairs
The Bilateral Affairs team of the Consulate is responsible a range of issues, from political and economic work, to dealing with high level visits and agreements, working with local media to promote the UK and its strengths, and promoting the UK’s prestigious Chevening scholarship programme.

Science & Innovation
The Science & Innovation Section of the British-Consulate General, Chongqing aims to strengthen the UK’s position as a leading partner for science and innovation in south-west China through facilitating scientific collaborations between local and British research institutions.

Climate Change & Energy
The Climate Change & Energy Section of the British Consulate-General, Chongqing works to promote a visible and accelerated shift in south-west China in general and Chongqing in particular towards low carbon development consistent with a trajectory towards a two-degree average global warming.

Welsh Affairs
The Welsh Affairs Office is responsible for taking forward the Co-operative Agreement between Wales and Chongqing Municipality in the fields of economic development, science and technology, culture, health, education, agriculture, forestry management, environment, governance, tourism, and land use planning.
