The British Consulate-General Guangzhou exists to promote UK interests in South China, and build better links between the two countries. It works to build wide-ranging and mutually beneficial relations between our two governments and peoples in the areas of trade and investment, science and technology, education, culture, development, environment and defence. The Consulate General also facilitates the legitimate movement of people between the two countries and offers assistance to British citizens in genuine need.

Services we provide
Consular
The Consular Section provides the full range of consular facilities to British Nationals. Our responsibilities include registering births and deaths, providing legal paperwork in marriage cases, issuing passports, notary service and consular protection for British nationals.
Visa
The Visa Section is responsible for processing and issuing visas for entrance to the United Kingdom. The types of visas processed include settlement, student, visits (official and private), employment and all other categories provided for within the immigration legislation. In South China visa applications are made to the Visa Application Centres in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Fuzhou.
Trade and Investment
UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) is the trade development arm of the British government and supports British businesses entering the Chinese market through missions, seminars, trade shows, research and ongoing advice. UKTI also fosters positive bilateral trade and investment conditions through its contacts with the Chinese Government.
Science & Innovation Section
The British Consulate’s Science and Innovation section works to increase understanding of UK strengths in science and technology, and to increase scientific collaboration between the UK and East China. The Science and Innovation section is part of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office's global Science and Innovation network with dedicated science and technology officers in over 40 British embassies and consulates. This network brings together the research community, government departments, industry and others to promote the UK's role at the forefront of scientific and technological developments.
Press Office
The Press Office serves the needs of the general public and media for information about the United Kingdom and its government policies.
Climate Change and Energy
The Climate Change and Energy Section aims to develop practical co-operation with government, business and other organisations in South China in the fields of climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy efficiency and low carbon economic development.
In support of this work, Climate Change Section identifies, develops and manages a number of programmes and projects funded by the British Government and implemented by partner organisations, including Chinese government departments, institutes and research centres, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other not-for-profit organisations.
