Applying for a UK passport in China
All British passports are produced by the Embassy in Beijing. You can either apply in person at our office in Beijing between the hours of 08.30 and 13.30, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). What to submit
To apply for a UK passport in China you must submit:
* your completed passport form.
* your 2 identical passport photographs.
* your current passport with a photocopy of the bio-data page
* your original supporting documents with photocopies
* your Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card with a photocopy (for BN(O) passport applications only)
* the correct passport fees and postal fees (if applying by mail) in RMB (if applying in person)/Postal Order (if applying by mail).Click here for a sample of Postal Order Application Form. For us to return your passport to you by post, you will need to pay us RMB30 as postage.
Processing your passport application
We are currently issuing passports in 10 working days from receipt of a complete application.
Our staff will not be able to process your application or there may be a delay issuing your passport if:
* you have used the wrong form or completed it incorrectly
* you do not provide the correct fee
* your photographs do not meet the required standards
Please note that the 10-day processing time will not start until the form is complete, the documents are received and/or payment has been accepted. Processing times do not include the time it takes to post the passport to and from the Passport Section.
During the 10-day processing time, we regret that we are unable to give reports on how the application is progressing. If you have requested and paid for your new passport to be sent to you by courier, and you do not receive it within 10 days, having allowed for weekends, public holidays and days spent in the postal system, you should contact us.
Customers should not make any travel arrangements until their new passport is received, as the British Embassy cannot be held responsible for costs incurred as a result of disrupted travel plans.
Refunds
No refunds will be issued for unsuccessful or fraudulent passport applications, or for any application which is withdrawn before it is completed.
Interview
From May 2007 the UK Identity Passport Service (IPS) introduced compulsory interviews for all first time adult applicants in the UK. This was designed to help stop fraudulent passport applications by improving the integrity and security of British passports. Please go to Passport Interviews for more information.
