Space SME Project

British Space Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) Mission to China

The purpose of this project is to forge industry to industry links and initiate R&D collaborations between the UK and China in relation to space-related technologies and services. The project assists British Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) access partners in China’s space market.

The UK has engaged in Government to Government discussions with China National Space Administration (CNSA) since the 2006 ‘Year in Science’. Since then, strong academic links have emerged through 5 UK/China workshops and the establishment of a joint virtual space laboratory. Both CNSA and the Chinese Manned Space Programme have established links with the UK and have made positive statements about collaboration at programme and industrial level. This project pioneers the UK’s engagement with Chinese and UK companies active in the space sector.

The mission aims to identify opportunities for business and R&D collaborations, as well as develop industry to industry links on space related technologies.

An outward mission to China by selected British Space SMEs will take place in winter 2009 (TBC).

The development of this project is still in progress. For more information please contact Laurence Jia at laurence.jia@fco.gov.uk
